Welcome to OWL CLASS!! 

Owl Class (Reception) is taught by:

Useful things to know:

1. Please name all school clothes and items... it will make it much easier for us to find items when they get lost. 
2. A healthy snack is provided and is eaten in the morning. No nuts are allowed. If for some reason we are not sent fruit we will message you. 
3. Send water in a named bottle everyday - we will encourage your child to drink it. 
4. On Wednesday we will be with our Forest School Specialist, who will be teaching a mix of PE, Science and Art/DT skills.
5. PE is on Monday with a cricket specialist and  Thursday with Mr Brown ~ Reception pupils are to wear black shorts and a white PE t-shirt under their school uniform so they do not need to get changed in school. Year 1 pupils are to bring their kits into school and they will change for their lessons. 
6. Reading Books will only be changed on a Monday (2 books and 1 Twinkl Phonics Book). This allows you to set your reading routine and time for your child to re-read the book which is recommended in the curriculum. 
7. READ comprehension task are identified next to the title in your reading record diary. In reception, we ask parents to write their child's response to the READ (comprehension) task. In Year 1, we ask children to write their own response to the READ (comprehension) task. 
8. Library Books will be selected and swapped on a Friday. Return on a Monday
9. In reception, phonics homework is sent home on a Monday. 
10. In Year 1, spelling homework and spelling tests are on a Monday.  
11. WOW Vouchers: We love to hear what your child has been doing outside of school. We will send home WOW vouchers or you can send us a message. We will then share them with our class.
12. Please do not send things into school as we cannot guarantee their safety. We do "Magical Marvellous Me" (a letter to explain this will be sent home) instead of show & tell sessions.

The main thing is that if you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and ask myself (Mrs Bell), Mrs Lay or Mr Brown. We are here to help you and your children.

Well-being is important to us, so we encourage children to talk to an adult they feel comfortable with if they have any problems. This can be any staff member in our class or any staff member in the whole school. The poster below shows just some of us is coming soon.

How to say sounds

Mr Thorne does phonics is found on You Tube.  His video's are recommended by many phonic specialists as it shows how individual letters or blended letters are pronounced and how they are used in words. He uses a character called Geraldine the Giraffe to make it fun for your child. If you search for Mr Thorne Does Phonics and the letters you are looking for it will give you the youtube link. 

This website will give you free access to electronic-books for reading. 

Digital e-books from Oxford Reading Tree on the website. You will need to register and create your own user name and password.
